According to the complaint, Ms. Johansson’s representatives sought to renegotiate her contract after learning of the dual-release strategy for “Black Widow,” which she has said is her ninth and last Marvel movie.
Disney and Marvel were unresponsive, the suit said. The decision to put the movie on Disney+ is projected to cost Ms. Johansson more than $50 million, a person familiar with details of her contract claimed.
Sounds like her issue is contract terms, they originally agreed on her percentage coming from a theatrical-only release. They went the dual theatrical/streaming route but never renegotiated with her, basically finessed her out of millions![]()
She's not the only actor/actress that's actually made a complaint about the changing of the movie release method due to the pandemic, so I'm not going to knock her for it.
I believe Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake were pissed about the exact same thing when Trolls World Tour switched to on demand instead of theater release. Denzel had complaints as well with one of his films.
If they breached the contract or didn't oblige by it, then they owe her the bread. It's that simple
Who Disney is in this situation or her future aspirations are irrelevant to the situation at hand. Let someone swindle you out of a contract you're locked into and see how'd you react. You'd be ready to sue as well![]()
PR wise, they might wanna dump her a bag. Won't look good treating a woman like that
as being hyperbolic
i'm sure she didn't expect endgame #'s...at least I'd hope she wasn't
Cap Marvel #'s seem unrealistic too
they can easily get out of it saying that they DID do a theatrical release and not just streaming day 1. they didn't break the contract in technicality. and you know how legal mumbo jumbo goes. couple in covid and what leg does she have to stand on. Again, they did release it theatrically.
