And for the record I’m #marvelset

Not #disneyset

I only signed up to Disney + for the marvel shows. Even though i can get the torrent, I still want to support the studio.

Disney should’ve just cut Johansson a check and kept it moving. It did good numbers opening weekend, but that VOD killed all momentum. So yeah, they screwed her.

Unfortunately, Marvel studios is beholden to Disney. They’re the reason it now has X-Men and F4 properties back.

in the end, this will just lead to new language being put into contracts.

I know most of you would gladly pay to stay at home and stream content, but it won’t be the same. Budgets will be different.

The solution is to increase the base pay to become less reliant on backend profits especially since streaming is the way of the future.

As it's constituted now, movie companies can technically breach and screw over talent as they don't have to tell the exact financial numbers of VOD, so technically you are cheating them out of bread.

It'd be like Marvel intentionally moving Endgame to theaters and VOD where they could help hide the true profits of the film and screw RDJ out of the 8% profit that he was owed for each film. So instead of paying him $80 million, you could only have to pay $30 million (theater profits) as you wouldn't have to split a percentage of the profits from VOD as you don't have to tell him the exact amount of money made.

Dudes literally is trying to place blame on her in the situation when she handled it the right way before filing the lawsuit and going public :russ:

Disney didn't care about bad optics when they told the father no who wanted to get Spiderman engraved on the tombstone of his son's grave. Disney also didn't care about bad optics either when they fined a group of parents for watching The Lion King at a PTA Meeting years ago.

So why should she care about the bad optics of this situation?

Marvel is beholden to Disney just like ESPN is. You do whatever the mouse says even if you don’t want to

Who do you think has been forcing ESPN to cut salary and force talent to take paycuts even if it meant losing good talent?

That was my point. They have to be beholden to their parent company

The way you said it made it sound so nefarious :russ:

I do mean it in a nefarious way though :ld:

Disney has a reputation of screwing people over the years and getting away with it over the years and that’s why people want Scarlett Jo to win even if they won’t publicly admit it.

Marvel didn't get hardly anything from those Spiderman films. I think they only got $6 million from the first spider man movie.

That's the main reason why they decided to start Marvel Studios in the first place. They saw other studios making piles of money off the shytty deals that were made dating back to the mid 90's.

Marvel didn't get much from the movies, but they won in an increase in comic book sales, toys, merch and other related stuff.

And honestly, in the future, they're gonna manipulate their streaming numbers to short people anyway. "I know that's what y'all think the streaming was, but this particular movie only did this much in streams"

That's exactly what's going to happen. It's easy for a company like Netflix right now to do because you have no way of determining the amount of money that a movie brought in or if it specifically lead to an increase in subscribers. That's why actors/actresses are going to have to negotiate an increase an base pay to become less reliant on backend bread.

Now Disney might have a hard time hiding their true numbers seeing as you can buy the movie individually with premier access.

the money was in the movies tho. If that wasn’t the case, they wouldn’t have mortgaged everything into starting a studio.

But honestly, you can’t really blame them for what they did in the 1990’s. Nobody would’ve predicted comic book movies would be what they are today. And they were desperate.

That's kind of a moot point considering that they make money from the studios plus whatever they make from comic book and toy sales plus other revenue. If the movie thing flopped, then they still would have had the other revenue coming in. That wouldn't have changed. It wouldn't have been as much as studio money, but money none the less.

The studio was a gamble that paid off considerably.
