These are who record labels are looking for.
They actively look over new artist who are hip to the scam. They want unfortunately star struck talent, that can be easily manipulated.
They are really good at finding the right type. Even the Smart Dumb types that they can play off their ego before they wise up like a Lupe Fiasco
Lol "scam"
Without someone putting up the money to pump you through the machine, pay for marketing, pay for radio spins, or pay for clothes/cosmetics then 99% of the time you dont become famous. But most artists dont make money without the fame first so the only way to recoup that money is on the backend. Thats just business
Yall really grown af thinking record labels should give out millions of dollars to signees as a gift and not try to make any money back on the investment.
That would sound stupid af in any business arena but only rappers can get nikkas believing in this candyland BS.
You mentioned Lupe Fiasco but his career effectively ended once he left his label and the Atlantic machine was no longer pushing him.
The funniest thing about this conversation is that we're having it around Scar Lip of all people. The fact that everyone in this thread knows who she is even though they not checking for her music is proof in and of itself that the label has earned every dollar on her and then some. I doubt she recoups even half the money invested to make her famous.
I mean sure it's a bad job but...she's not marketable, and even a perfect situation wouldn't work. Do people want her on Griselda beats making music nobody wants to hear besides five people on the Coli? Or do people want her over drill beats so she gets some youtube views but nobody buys the record? Or do they want her imitating the current wave making sexy videos and talking about dudes eating her ass...which nobody wants to hear? She has no real options here as a mainstream rapper on a major label. This is what she wanted and I think it was a bad idea. But then again the alternative was being independent, getting half a mil views on youtube and having no money.
Exactly. She either really plugged in with someone important or someone at the label is on drugs because I can't imagine a path to viability with her. Her image is tough and vulgar and the only type of people who want to hear this type of music is "I'm from Nu Yawk Schon!" ass grimy old heads. And they don't want to hear that shyt from a woman.
On some level it's nice to see the girl doing it her way (or at least she was, now it's an all out chase for some buzz) and getting a shot. I'm sure she's a nice person, I just can't not see the pile of money on fire.
