You guys know where I am going with this. Before I get the shame tactics, Coli women all I am asking for once is if you are going to defend this any longer to at least give better reasoning. Why do you guys continue to argue about liking the Show "Scandal" for the reasons of it having a good storyline and saying everything from people giving it an unfair rap and not giving it a chance to it being a model of success for Black women....?
Do not use the excuse of Scandal being a tv series and Monster's Ball being a short movie....
Why is it not a "good storyline" or a "symbol of success for Black women" when Halle Berry was a Poor Black Woman sleeping with a White Corrections Officer after her husband was executed? We all know the flack she caught after this movie in the Black community, so why is Scandal any different? Why does a difference in wealth make sleeping with a White man a different situation? Just because Olivia Pope is a "business woman" does not make the symbolism of what she is doing any different at all. The President fukked her in a closet....
The television series is nothing to be proud of.....a 35 year old Black woman having the people who watch her on screen justify what she is doing is "okay" because she is ambitious and has political influence. Never mind the fact that the key aspect of marital infidelity is just thrown under the rug and ignored. At least you could say in Monster's Ball there was no marital infidelity involved because each party had either died or was not mentioned. So the same way we are able to criticize that movie and the portrayal of the Black woman in a demeaning role like that, use that same knowledge to see how this is no different. You guys actually threw protests over the fact that there were rumors that the Prince in the Disney movie "Princess and the Frog" may have ended up being a Black man(which turned out to be wrong).
No this is not "just a television show its not that serious" type of retort that you can make to my argument. The same way I am sure you ladies would use the same justifications and excuses of marital infidelity if a White President in the mold of JFK physically was having an affair with a Black woman. You ladies would be using all kinds of editorials arguing why nothing was wrong with it and how the infidelity was an example of a Black woman reaching far ahead in the public sector and being a representation to all of you that great things can happen if you put your mind to it.
