ESPN already has a succession plan in place after Breen, according to its head of NBA production, Dave Roberts.

In August, Roberts anointed Ryan Ruocco, JJ Redikk and Richard Jefferson as the No. 2 team and indicated they would be in position to be promoted to the No. 1 spot at some point. Ruocco is already ESPN’s lead WNBA and women’s college basketball voice.

Roberts did not give a timetable for the change, but now Breen is locked in for four more years, including this one.

Ryan rucco's voice is not suitable for big time games... his voice sounds like a whining lil boy just hitting puberty.. and does he still have that horrible toupee or hair transplant on his head

Breen *only* 62, the way play-by-play guys hang on forever and well past their prime he probably has another 15 years as the lead guy

From what I gathered listening to interviews and articles, Breen might just be tired of the grind of doing national games and Knicks games each season. So at some point in the future, he might focus sorely on the Knicks and give up the national games. That makes sense doing prep and traveling for multiple games and teams a week for decades has to be a wear.
