Just a wondering.

Animals are getting pretty smart. Chimps using sign language, elephants using touch screens, when are we going to be able to hold full conversations with one of these creatures? And by full conversation, complex things like what they feel the meaning of life is rather than what color are apples.

I know that vocally it may not be possible, our vocal chords aren't the same, but maybe a specialized keyboard or translation device of some sorts? I think we're maybe 20-30 years out, but definitely think its within reach of possibility.

On a side note, i bet we'd already be able to communicate if we were the dominate specie in primal combat. Tigers prolly don't respect us eye to eye cause they know they could put them paws on us, not knowing what the real ramification of that gun powder is.

I don't think that any animal can talk about abstract "meaning" (like the "meaning" of life), or have real, sophisticated moral dialogue (since they really don't have "moral" systems like we do, unless you want to consider informal rules governed by various instincts a "moral" system). "Meaning" and "morality" in both these cases are inventions constructed to alleviate our own suffering and fear of the world's meaninglessness. Studying our own history teaches us this.

Dolphins already have language. Once we learn to decipher that we might be able to have complex convos with them. With regard to other animals, their brains might not have developed naturally to think about things at such a high level. We might have to enhance their intelligence ala planet of the apes to get an idea of what they think about shyt.

You really want animals to tell you to go fukk yourself? Imagine being out on a safari and you run into hungry Tiger, and before you become dinner he tells you

I was just going over this last semester in one of my classes. Concepts about the mental states of animals. Does an animal have a mind?

I think that because we judge intelligence by our biases as humans (i.e., linguistic, tools, etc), we might be giving the short end of the stick to an animal like a Dolphin, which some believe can rival our own intelligence in a lot of ways.

This, most animals wouldn't have anything remotely intelligent to say :heh:
It would be like talking to an adolescent.
