The main theme seems to be rich vs poor
There are some dialogues about unfit mothers. The mental health system and the welfare of the poor is discussed as well.
There is also an interesting recurrence of black people trying to aid or assist the title character. Though that could be based on the time period.
I will say that I can see how any violent loner individual could be inspired or feel empowered by this. The ending scenes evoke that Alex Minanssian interview talking about revolutions and the like.
It was a good movie, just not a Joker movie and feels more like a spiritual successor to Taxi Driver than anything else.
