I think the majority of folk can acknowledge a competent remake, this was anything but. You're already fighting a losing battle if you try to tackle a film that's anomalous and translate it for mainstream tastes, in the effort of capturing the same tone, you create the exact opposite. You digest the OG, because the intended humor acts as a coping mechanism that helps you deal with the hard to swallow, disturbing, obscenity and deliriousness of it all - whereas you cringe at the remake in the same manner you would when a white dude thinks he can dance, when really he dances like a white dude.

It doesn't help its cause when Min-sik is a 1000000000000000x better actor than Brolin.

I still don't understand why folk judge films on subject matter, rather than judging it by how they tell a story based around the subject matter.

I never had a desire to check for the remake. I seen the OG when it dropped. :manny:

Likewise I never seen "Let Me In", even though I heard it was decent.

i liked both versions just thought sharlto was way too over the top of a villain compared to the more quiet menacing version of the original villain. Idk why they switch up the motivations of the villain but it was still basically the same so its whatever. The one plus i give the movie is what josh did to that dude on the soccer field, that shyt was brutal :banderas:

Nobody wanna see some shyt having to do with incest. :scust:

Yes it was told well but I'd rather see a cliche revenge flick instead of some weirdo creep shyt like that. :camby:

American version better solely based off of having a Black director.

I still remain curious as to what the final product of the Spielberg/Will Smith Oldboy remake would have been like since it would of been based more on the manga, then just a direct remake....and you know, Will Smith doing this kind of material as well.

It was never going to happen.

Let's put it like this....Vince Gilligan had to rewrite "Hancock" like 10x because it was too dark. There was no way in hell Will Smith was going anywhere near "Oldboy", if it was remotely similar to either the manga, or the OG movie.
