This had it's high points, it wasn't garbage but I'm a little disappointed that Eddie just did all his old characters without putting a new spin on any of them.

]

Eh, I think it was less about him putting a spin on his old characters and more about showing how they'd interact with this generation. That's why you had Mr. Robinson dealing with gentrification, Gumby roasting Che and Jost and Velvet Jones dealing with the MeToo era. That's what made it interesting to me, seeing the 80s era comedy clash with modern times.

I thought Eddie did a great job. Only one that fell flat for me was the Buckwheat sketch mainly because I never thought Buckwheat was a funny character

Mandatory Bill Cosby dig to appease white folks.

Eddie has talked about how Cosby was mean as fukk to him.

OR THE FACT THAT COSBY TREATED HIM LIKE shyt?

GET KEENAN WACK ASS OFF THE STAGE.

Why didn't he do anything during the 40th? Just something like this

yeah I remember reading after the 40th anniversary Eddie Addressed that the writers wanted him to do Celebrity Jeopardy as Cosby. At the time it was when the allegations were starting to build up more and more. The writers wanted Eddie as Cosby and the joke was going to go for the jugular by having Cosby not saying anything but stirring up a drink implying some chick was about to take a nap.

Eddie didn’t wanna go that route out of respect. And well... I guess Eddie said fukk respect Bill I been holding on to this moment since the 80s.

As fun as it was to see Eddie Murphy back, this was pretty much like every other SNL show. Monologue was great, Weekend Update ok, their digital short was hilarious, but the show was basically over after Weekend Update, again.

It's like when WWE brings back all the old school wrestlers to mask the fact that the show was mid.

CTHU Funny. I started watching SNL faithfully again over the past 4-5 years, and right after Update I turn it off.

He goes into more detail on Seinfeld’s show on Netflix.

It was cool.
Eddie been rich too long. It's even changed his speaking voice.
My beef with Ed's comedy as of late is his tendency to go shrill (the elf sketch) rather being funny and cool at the same time (White Like Me classic digital short).
Seemed like Charlie had taken over that lane recently.
This had it's high points, it wasn't garbage but I'm a little disappointed that Eddie just did all his old characters without putting a new spin on any of them.
The Buckwheat sketch was the absolute weakest.
But then again this is probably part of the process of Ed getting his live comedy legs back under him so he can do stand up again. So they just kept it in his comfort zone.

This Eddie was unfukkwitable:

What are your comedic credentials brah?

Bill Cosby’s Publicist Slams Eddie Murphy, Calls Him a ‘Hollywood Slave’ for SNL Monologue

Comedian and actor Eddie Murphy’s return to Saturday Night Live after 35 years has garnered mostly positive reviews. One person who was not a fan however was the publicist for jailed comedian Bill Cosby.

During his opening monologue, Murphy spoke about Cosby, who is currently serving a 3 to 10 year prison sentence for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004.

“My kids are actually pretty much my whole life now,” Murphy said Saturday night. “But if you would have told me 30 years ago that I would be this boring stay at home house dad and Bill Cosby would be in jail, even I would have took that bet.”

“Who is ‘America’s dad’ now?” Murphy asked as he did an impression of Cosby.

The bit drew plenty of laughs from the audience but Cosby’s publicist, Andrew Wyatt, was not amused. Wyatt took to Cosby’s official Instagram page Sunday night to slam Murphy for his comments.

“It is sad that Mr. Murphy would take this glorious moment of returning to SNL and make disparaging remarks against Mr. Cosby,” Wyatt wrote. “One would think that Mr. Murphy was given his freedom to leave the plantation, so that he could make his own decisions; but he decided to sell himself back to being a Hollywood Slave.”

Murphy has talked about Cosby throughout his standup career. During his popular 1987 standup special, “Raw,” Murphy talked about criticism he received from Cosby due to his raunchy humor.
