A nine-foot-tall bronze statue of Baphomet, the winged humanoid goat with breasts worshipped by Satanists, was unveiled near the Detroit River just before midnight on Saturday. The Satanic Temple, who commissioned the statue, plan to transport it to Arkansas, to protest the governor signing a bill that allows a 10 Commandment monument to be placed on the State Capitol's grounds. (Originally, it was supposed to go to Oklahoma, where a similar controversy is playing out, but that didn't work out.) Regardless of how you feel about the Satanists and their tactics, however, there's one thing we can all agree on, and that is that this is a great statue, and it probably looks even better in bronze, and literally any city would be lucky to have it. If it sticks around Detroit, though, that would seem vaguely appropriate.
