My Grandfather was on that beach, on that day. He was one of the few ”Negro Medics” trained to work only on “Negro Soldiers”. Needless to say, all that bullshyt went out of the window when they hit the beach, and they were screaming for medics...

Yeah, I have to look for it. He came back, and tried to use his GI Bill to buy a home in Levitt Town and was denied. They only sold the black GI’s shoddy housing way out on Long Island that basically fell apart, so he had to move his family back to Brooklyn. My fam has been there ever since.I think it may have been Ken Burns’ documentary that touched on how special the black medics were over those first two days of the landing. I could be wrong about the source but I remember it from somewhere. Waverly Woodson just got a posthumous DSC for his work on the beach, this year.
Do you know where they originally moved to? There are a couple of different communities where black GIs relocated. Most of those houses are still standing and have decent upkeep if their families weren't hit by the nonsense in the late 80's/ early '90s.Yeah, I have to look for it.
