AT&T considering permanently ending Galaxy Note 7 sales
31 comments
Carriers might cancel the Note 7 on their own

If Samsung doesn't officially cancel the Galaxy Note 7's release, US carriers might try and do it themselves. AT&T is considering ending all further sales of the plagued Note 7, according to a report from Bloomberg tonight. A decision could come as soon as later this evening.

If true, AT&T will immediately cease sales of the "safe" replacement devices — one of which caught fire on a Southwest Airlines plane Wednesday — and the carrier may also stop exchanging defective Note 7s for the replacement phones. Instead, AT&T will let its customers who've bought the Note 7 return it for another smartphone. The company confirmed it would allow this earlier today, but stopped short of saying it planned to stop sales and exchanges of Samsung's second batch of Note 7 devices altogether.

Clearly Wednesday's incident on a Southwest Airlines flight has Samsung's carrier partners concerned; they've already dealt with the initial recall, and it appears AT&T may be done taking chances on the Note 7. The Verge has reached out both to Samsung and AT&T for comment. If this pans out, it could cause a domino effect with other US carriers following AT&T's lead — leaving Samsung little choice but to formally call off the Note 7's US release.

An investigation into Wednesday's incident remains ongoing. Samsung's replacement Note 7s haven't yet officially been deemed hazardous by the company or federal investigators.

:stopitslime: Like I really give a damn about your personal point of view. :mjlol::lolbron::russ:

Those who aren't interested in reading any of the aforementioned or future "articles" can simply skip them
Not only are they unnecessary, but the ones I've read rarely prove your "points". I'm really doing you a favor :pachaha:

Poster 1 says Samsung's phones aren't doing ABC and you post articles staying iPhones are doing XYZ with your chest poked out :dead:

Poster 2 says this is bad and could potentially affect Samsung financially. You post a retort where their CEO states that their profits are at the lowest in 3 quarters (and doesn't even include the affect of the 1 (and possibly soon to be 2) recalls :deadrose:

Poster 3 says the mobile division could negatively affected by the recalls. You post an article stating that Samsung's profits are up....... Off their stellar chip and display performance :deadmanny:

Have a seat and take another L! The "100 Billion" in Samsung sales that you keep referring to is based on an analysts "ESTIMATE", not actual official sales numbers.:heh:

And none of your recycled garbage changes the fact that Apple's primary product, the iPhone sales are in the dumps for 2016 & keep diminishing quarter after quarter. :jawalrus:

Apple Slides on Speculation of Lower iPhone 7 Sales Outside U.S.

Create an all new iPhone 7 smartphone which can't even sell better than a previous, older 6 models brehs! :lolbron:
If a company in this space puts out the same product for 3 years in a row what else is gonna happen? The people that bought the product last year will look and see a product is mostly they same as will the people the year before that.

When next year rolls around and they release a completely revamped product and it flops you'd have a point but the iPhone 7 was a throw away model. They barely changed it.

Apple recycled the same design a third straight year. When they completely redesign the iPhone next year if it flops then trash them. Add to that phone subsidies ended and people have to pay the full overpriced amount for them now. The reality is as a tech product smartphones have peaked. There isn't much more they can offer and people will gradually become more and more comfortable keeping the same phone for years because the new models offer gimmicks instead of real innovation.

Nonsense. Just because Apple continues to fail by not offering any real innovative, worthwhile technological advancements on the iPhone doesn't mean that other smartphone manufacturers are doing the same. Love or hate them, from a technology standpoint, Samsung is continuously on the cutting edge in regards to useful, worthwhile smartphone advancements. And the fact that Apple's understands it's core business model is introducing "recycled", rehashed iPhone versions year in and out with little or no substantive innovation, even as Apple's iPhone sales continue to falter. So the rationalizations you present are nothing but excuses.for Apple's incompetence.

This is laughable. For years Samsung put out cheap plastic phones packed to the brim with gimmick features people would hardly even use. Even last year they tried to bite off Apple and put out phones with non-replaceable batteries and fixed non-expandable storage at excessive prices and it wasn't well received so this year they pretty much released the phone they should have released last year and it was damn near the same phone as the S6. Samsung is notorious for copying features and ideas from the iPhone. They'll ridicule Apple for a feature one year then the next copy it and act like that never happened.

Who had manufacturer based NFC payments first Apple or Samsung? Who had the fingerprint scanner first Apple or Samsung? Who had Live photos first? Who used the screen as a flash for the front facing camera first?

Hell Samsung has successful litigation against it from Apple for stealing features from the iPhone. Funny thing is a lot of the features Samsung steals from Apple weren't even invented by Apple but after Apple introduces them Samsung follows suit the following year.

Yep. Nobody's doing any game changing innovation right now. They're just taking existing concepta and making them better at best.

Cheap plastic phones? S4 wasn't highly touted and The Note 4 wasn't phone of the year? Lol.

go on google and search for cheap plastic phones and note the first manufacturer name you see.

remember this? Samsung mocking Apple for phones with non-replaceable batteries and crap battery life. This was the Galaxy S5. The following year the Galaxy S6 is released with a non-replaceable battery and shyt battery life.

I'm sorry but I'm not making any of this stuff up. Samsung's theft of features concepts and ideas from Apple is about as bad as Sony's theft from Nintendo in the gaming space.

It's actually part of the reason I like Samsung phones. They're the iPhones of the Android world.

What's laughable is actually thinking that Apple is at the forefront of smartphone advancements or that they don't copy or steal from Samsung (or other Android smartphone companies).

Who had water resistant handsets first, Apple or Samsung? :sas2:

iPhone still has no wireless charging capabilities while Samsung's Galaxy S series smartphones have implemented this technology over 3 years ago.:sas1:

Samsung manufactures & produces the best, most advanced OLED Super AMOLED smartphone screens in both flat & curved variants (a first for any smartphone) while Apple still uses subpar, outdated LCD screens with low 750 & 1080 resolutions.

:pachaha:

Who copied the Galaxy Note series by producing there own larger phablet styled phones after Apple's own acclaimed Steve Jobs stated "no one's going to buy a big phone":patrice:

Where is Apple's iPhone Iris Scanner technology like Samsung has produced for it's Galaxy Note 7 (once again another first that the iPhone doesn't have)?:sas2:

The state of the art implementation of Samsung's S Pen stylus for their Note models > iPhone? Enough said.

Samsung has dedicated VR hardware/software & headsets for their new Galaxy S6/S7 Note series smartphones while Apple.................yup you know it, nothing!:heh:

Who had Live photos first?
It wasn't Apple! :russ: HTC actually introduced this feature for their devices awhile back called Zoe Capture. This is just one of the many software features Apple stole from Android smartphone manufacturers that was renamed & repackaged on iOS as "unique" Apple tech.

If you want to continue to go down this road, I'll be happy to oblige :heh:
