Fellow Beatmakers/Producers, what do you usually start off with first?

Me personally, I usually start off with the sample/synth first, but I find it easier to complete/finish the beat when start with the drums first...

What do yall start off with first?

I do drums first. Since I kinda built my style being inspired by Timbaland, Boi-1da, Hit-Boy and T-Minus, I like making sure my drums knock first. I can't stand listening to a beat where the drums just don't knock right. It doesn't have to be some wild patterning either, it just has to sound... right. Hard to explain.

9/10 samples first. Searching for that gold sample and chopping it is the fun part of making a beat for me anyway. As a result, I got stacks of tracks with no drums on em yet though lol.
Lol me too....well on my old computer before I lost all my damn beats smh

lost them all..oh shyt. I'd be :sadbron:
I'm forever losing parts of tracks though just ask @LauderdaleBoss , our upcoming joint would of been done months ago if I was organised.

@DJ Dope-Needlz , I see you on the snares. I will load up one kick on a pad, and stick 15 snares on the rest and keep going until I got a match!

It depends on the day tbh.

When im going through kits, and experimenting with different drums i havent used, so I can get an idea of wanting a certain drum when I need it, i'll end up making a drum pattern and then layering a sample or melody over it.

Other times, im listening to samples and cutting and chopping trying to find different parts and I hear something intiguing and say let me put some drums over it....

Then there are days like yesterday I was trying to do the beat for BK and ended up playing piano for like 6hrs. Other times i'll try to do somethin with my guitar and just end up playing guitar all day while the mpc is on.....

Sample first. Sample is the meal. The drums is the drink.

It's like when Im out to eat. They bring the drinks out first and i always end up drinkin my drink(usually coke) before my meal comes. A lot of times it makes it difficult for me to finish my meal because I done consumed 2 glasses of coca cola already.

Dumb analogy, I know lol, but that's how it is for me
