too bad byfuglien would never rep his blacl side

Wonder if he'd have the same response if the protest was against mistreatment of gays, or jews, etc? Doubt it. Black folk stay getting disrespected publicly cuz we have no power. There is no fear of retribution.

On Wednesday, Roger Goodell told the media that he disagrees with Kaepenick’s choice to kneel, but acknowledges his right to protest.

We’ve heard plenty of people talk about accepting the right to protest, but disagreeing with the method. Goodell offered up a line that is kind of rich:

“I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don't live in a perfect society. We live in an imperfect society. On the other hand, we believe very strongly in patriotism in the NFL. I personally believe very strongly in that. I think it's important to have respect for our country, for our flag, for the people who make our country better; for law enforcement, and for our military who are out fighting for our freedoms and our ideals.”

Professional sports across the board believe “very strongly” in patriotism, although it is baseball and football that push that narrative most frequently. The NFL got into some hot water over the notion of “paid patriotism.” The league and teams are allowed to make money as they see fit, but the patriotism push sometimes seems a little fake, and mostly just pressing the buttons that they know will make them look good. It’s hard to take the NFL seriously on the issue of patriotism.

NFL players receive proceeds from their jersey sales?:dwillhuh:

Never knew this. I thought it was just baked into the player-owner split that defines the salary cap.

They get like 30 grand a year or something, it doesn't matter how much they sell

Yeah I never knew they got a percentage either. But hearing its a flat 30grand, that's chump change and disrespectful.

More Seahawks may join Lane in pregame anthem protest

Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane has said he plans to sit during the national anthem this season, and there were hints from the Seahawks locker room Wednesday that Lane may not be alone in doing so.

Seahawks Pro Bowl wide receiver Doug Baldwin told reporters that he has considered joining Lane in some form of protest, and linebacker Bobby Wagner offered a hint that multiple Seahawks players have discussed some sort of action.

“Anything we want to do, it’s not going to be individual,” Wagner said, via the Seattle Times. “It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals.”

Wagner didn’t share details and added that “whatever we decide to do will be a big surprise.”

Baldwin stressed that he’s made no decision on whether he’ll sit or stand, saying he needed “to make sure I get all of my ducks in a row” before making a decision. Baldwin said he’s talked to 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who remained seatedduring the national anthem throughout the preseason, via mutual friend and former Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette.

“Honestly I’m praying a lot about it, moreso leaning on my faith and trying to get the right direction in that regard,” Baldwin said.

The Seahawks open the season at home Sunday vs. the Dolphins.

i'm keeping an eye on Seattle on sunday
