Cronenberg's The Fly.

The film was so good, I didn't even rank it as horror, I place it in the Sci-Fi realm with Aliens, Avatar, Trek, etc. But yeah, that was a Greek Tragedy and tough to watch....when Brundle asked for Veronica to pull that trigger:
:to:

That Howard Shore soundtrack comes on with those strings for the finale....
:merchant:

the film throughout has elements of horror, IE the Monster concept.
sci fi horror can be used.
Would you say The Thing is sci fi then? It's surely both genres.

How does it end
I think its better if you saw the full movie, but

Reflecting on his wife/kids who died. They were "visions" he was having throughout the film. But in reality they were trying to reach him in death. He starts pleading how "He's a good man" and as he fully accepts he's in hell this sad song comes on.

Yes, I can see the horror aspect in some aspects, but the gene splicing, teleportation, and the futuristic theories puts this squarely in the arena of sci-fi as it can be somewhat explained by science. The Thing is pure Sci-Fi to me as The Thing was an alien really trying to get home, not cause drama...

Sadistic films, Saw, Hostel, Jeepers Creepers, Freddy, Jason, It, Romero films, are horror essentials in my eyes.

then what about the Frankenstein films? That has science involved, but the franchise is labelled as Horror. I see where you are coming from.
Horror can bring many forms of subgenre's together when you think about it?
