Any practical demonstration on how they're not? If you just throw out debt and deficit numbers, make sure you account and provide for how they got to be that way (the deficit is falling faster under Obama than it has in 60 years btw http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...a-says-deficit-falling-fastest-rate-60-years/).
There's been a bipartisan neoliberal consensus for the most part on fiscal matters since the 70's, until the Repubs just went completely nuts in the 00's under Bush, doing massive top-heavy tax cuts while simultaneously adding a huge entitlement program completely unpaid for (Medicare part D), while conducting two wars on credit cards.
Oh yeah, and Reagan quadrupled the debt. Of the two parties, the Dems are the only one who have even pretended to give a fukk about fiscal responsibility. Asking Repubs to distance themselves from the crazy teabagger-types and beome moderate fiscal conservatives is pretty much asking them to become Democrats. It's funny because the Democrats have moved so far to the right, that Republicans have to be irrational nutjobs just to carve out a space to be different from them.
