Turned Soweto into a 5 song EP of tracks 1, 2, 4, 5 & 8. Plays much better than the whole album. I'll buy a copy to complete the collection at some point in the future but it's definitely not a priority.

Then I saw this:
(facebook/NicolayMusic/posts/10152953253710653) I really have always hated how they are so adamant about espousing how they have "moved on" from Hip Hop. Especially Phonte.

The only time I've seen Phonte actually be "adamant" about moving on from Hip-Hop is on "Tigallo For Dolo" and you cant even really call it "adamant" because he released a solo album after that...and Nicolay's post is really the only time I've seen him address any sort of critique or comments regarding the group...He usually just takes the high road and doesnt respond at all

Te's verse on "Tigallo For Dolo"

"Like I was the chosen
One for flowin'
I'm done, the rap game's No Country For Old Men
I'll always spit whenever the spirit hits me
But fukk if I'm a be doing this shyt when I'm sixty
And that's no disrespect to KRS
I'm just trying to make my art and do what's smart
I'm saying
Rapping Tay, four-and-half-mic honoree
Or singing Tay, first-time Grammy nominee

nikka, you do the math
nikka, you add it up"

Yeah. I was on my elliptical machine playing the album and almost fell off laughing when this track came on. He channeling Rockwell on this.

@Grizzly They have brought it up many times. It's been talked about since before LIAB dropped.
If they "bring it up" it's usually in response to someone on Twitter or in an interview...I haven't seen them adamant about it like you say they are but they've released 6 albums after the first one and you still have fans disliking their videos on Youtube, leaving bad reviews on Itunes and trashing them because they don't do enough Hip-Hop tracks...I would get pissed and start lashing out too (even though I haven't them do this)

You're taking umbrage with my vocabulary choice. I say it's "adamant" and you don't see it that way. No problem. Being 100% honest, Nicolay has done ~6 Hip Hop albums. I can't fault people for wanting more as is human nature with things that you like. Fans are gonna fan. If that's how they feel, what can you do? I don't agree with their actions but I also don't care either. One thing that no one can deny is that they (as FE only) have not made a better album (total discography included) than Connected and haven't made a better R&B album than Leave It All Behind.

I really don't see how the last two albums(I won't comment on Authenticity because I can only remember like 3 songs off of it, the ones that I liked) is some grand departure from Leave It All Behind. Once FE went the all singing route(besides a few 16s here and there from Phonte) they've never really been a straight laced R&B outfit, there's house and downtempo/broken beat elements on Leave It All Behind, so if you hate when they go that route on the last two albums then you must have hated some of the songs on LIAB as well. As for Nicolay voicing his displeasure that fans are shytting on the albums in review sections of sites because they don't sound like Connected or the rap albums like Timeline(that shyt was hella underrated) he did back in the day, I don't blame him. Its clear from his own production and the production as FE that he isn't in that lane anymore, and its been years at this point, so if you know you aren't getting Connected why take the time to go out of your way to shyt on stuff you know you aren't going to like?

Got the Japanese 2 CD version of (T)Here and the 2 CD version of The Dutch Masters Vol. 1.

(T)Here's second disc has a majority of the OG's instrumentals and a couple of extra songs and remixes. It also comes with the obi and an interview with Nicolay completely in Japanese. Can't read a lick of it but it's a nice touch as is Japan's tradition when it comes to goods of this nature.

Finally got a copy of The Dutch Masters Vol. 1, 2 disc version. I have been trying to get a hold of this one for a long time. These beats are something else. Especially the tail end of it. On YouTube there are 17 tracks, however on the CD, there are 18. I have been looking at the discogs page for some time and never noticed that that track was present. That last instrumental is a mother f u c k e r. My goodness.

I'm throwing every Nicolay instrumental that I have on the phone. A few more CDs and the Nicolay collection will be complete.

What all do you have and what "beat CD" are you referring to?

I'm talking about my mp3 collection.
I had a rare beat CD downloaded somewhere in 2008 from Nicolay.
Can't find that nowhere on Soulseek anymore.

It was literally called "Nicolay - Beat CD"

What's it looking like? Do you know anyone who might have a link to that tape?

I like Mr. Porter, but there's something... "cheap" about his beats. Oddisee has truly lush production, and I can't think of the last time I heard Tigallo on some really lush production. Strings, bass, natural drums.

Imagine Phonte on this, either singing or rapping.

Damn bruh, never heard this track before. This is pretty good. :ohhh:

Regarding OP's post, I kinda fukks with the track. :manny: shyt sounds like something from an early 90s house album.
