This reminds of a story that happened a few weeks ago.

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
Family and friends describe 24-year-old DeLauna Powell as a mother, a makeup artist, and a friend. She was looking forward to celebrating her 25th birthday this Friday.

“DeLauna was the kind of person that when she walked in the room, she made everyone smile," said her friend Jessica Silver.

Early Tuesday morning, around 5AM, her life was cut short. According to Mobile Police Chief James Barber, Powell was gunned down while sitting inside of her car at a stop sign. She was driving near Duval Street and the I-10 Service Road heading to work when she was shot multiple times. Barber believes someone tried to rob her. Detectives found multiple shell casings on the scene. Her death marks the 9th homicide in the city in almost two weeks.

“This young lady got up today, took a shower, got in her vehicle to go to work,” Barber said, “this is actually an attack on us as a community as a society. This could have been anybody’s wife, anybody’s daughter”.

For Jessica Silver, Powell was like her family. She said she leaves behind a five-year-old daughter and a slew of relatives who all love her.

"I’m just shocked, I don’t understand," Silver said, "she didn’t deserve this at all.”
