Because he was completely deflated by the time he did leave the company.

When he had a chance to get the belt at HIAC, he was over as hell. It had nothing to do with his intangible talents, but there was no denying he was over. In the grand scheme of things, that's all that matters and they could and should have capitalized on it. He didn't even need to be in the title picture at the time, which makes it even worse looking back at it. Nobody is arguing that he's great (or even that good), but he was in a spot to have a much better career than he had.

That's my problem. They didn't HAVE to put him anywhere near the title picture. He could have cooked in the midcard for a few months until after WM. They deliberately put dude in that spot and his career never recovered.

You can blame the man. He has a lot of pull backstage and could have jobbed if he wanted to. Many wrestlers in the past have done what they thought was best for business like Bret letting the Rock go over.

Bray not going over at Cena to conclude their feud was a travesty. Forever etched in my mind that Bray was a loser. It would have been a nice change of pace to see Superman go down, have to redeem himself and then get the victory in Part 2 of their rivalry. Bray winning the first part would have done wonders for him. To this day, he's just a mouth that hasn't done anything significant in the ring.
