WWE’s highest revenue AND profit year in history is 2017. All in did 10,000 tickets with no television. Money. If the tv ratings had no direct correlation with dollars made for WWE, then the mark would be yourself & Vince Russo.

What does that have to do with the quality of the product? Yes, they are making more money than ever but the actual people watching the product is a small fraction of what it used to be. It’s called having more revenue streams in 2018 than in 1998.

WCW Monday Nitro was still the highest rated tv show on turner networks and got cancelled. The sponsors were 1-800-COLLECT, energy drinks and assorted bullshyt. Vince Russo wasn’t the sole reason for the death of WCW, and it was certainly in decline, but he put his foot on the pedal and sped it up. Maybe if he was a ‘mark’ for the balance sheet and not one for the tv ratings report, Time Warner would have NEVER sold it for $2 million to McMahon to kill it. My point isn’t solely that WWE made $800 million with $75 million profit in 2017, they made more money FROM TELEVISION in 2017 than they did when they brought in the 8.1 rating in 1999. That has nothing to do with diversification of revenue streams. There’s no correlation between tv ratings and rights fees. Until you show there are, mentioning tv ratings is mark shyt. Jerry Lawler used to get 50 tv ratings in Memphis and his shyt is cancelled too.

What I’m saying is the antagonistic “be mad marks/see you next week“ type booking that WWE & inexplicably TNA did over the years opened the door for ROH/NJPW/ indies to super serve the hardcore fans to create a market share over the past 5-7 years. This is why Vince green lit Paul Levesque to run NXT at a loss like he did. Russo showing up to ‘antagonize’ and heel at a show signing wouldn’t benefit a show that sold out in 30 minutes without him.
