NATO has an aircraft carrier in the Black Sea.
Turkey is preparing to launch its first aircraft carrier, TCG Anadolu, which will be the world's first flattop to deploy an air wing mostly made up of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Originally, the air wing was to be made up of F-35B stealth aircraft, but Turkey was removed from the F-35 programme because of its purchase of the Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missile system. The country has turned to drone technology to fill the gap and is set to deploy the Bayraktar TB3s, the naval variant of the Bayraktar TB2 drone, and the Kızılelma, a jet-powered combat drone.
The ship, TCG Anadolu, will arrive at an important time for Turkey, which is increasingly active in its region and around the world.
