Long term, how sustainable is this? This is a bit off the topic but since we are on the subject...
It seems that after an empire is done expanding that it turns it's imperialist behavior inward upon itself. The US is a freakishly pristine example of this. It's been doing it since it's inception via the exploitation of natives and slave trade....and it never stopped. It just mutated over time to take whatever shape it needed to continue. Resisting Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Reservations, voter suppression, COINTELPRO, etc, etc.
It's like the US can't stop targeting certain segments of it's own populace. Why inflict such self harm continuously throughout it's history?
Sorry for the rant, it's not directed at yall directly.

Because The U.S. is a baby compared to other countries. It hasn't even really gone through puberty yet. Places like India, China, Egypt are thousands of years old. The U.S. as a nation isn't even 300 years old (246). Still a lot of growing pains to endure.
