Steve Bannon Lawyers Up ... As Russia Investigators Get Ready to Pounce
Trump’s former chief strategist has largely avoided the spotlight of the Russia probe—until now.

Steve Bannon is lawyering up as he gets ready to face investigators looking into the Trump-Russia nexus.

The Daily Beast has learned that the former top White House strategist has retained Bill Burck, of the firm Quinn Emanuel. Two sources tell us Burck is helping Bannon prepare for an interview with the House intelligence committee, which is currently scheduled for next week. Sources also said Bannon plans to “fully cooperate” with investigators.

Burck also represents White House Counsel Don McGahn and former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus for the purposes of the Russia probe, as Law360 reported last September.

It is not unheard of for one attorney to represent more than one client on the same matter. But the fact that several key players with Trump administration ties have the same lawyer could irk investigators.

“In general, prosecutors don’t like it when the same attorney represents multiple people who are subjects—or more—because it looks like they’re controlling the story,” said Ken White, a former federal prosecutor who specializes in First Amendment issues, speaking of investigators’ targets.

Until recently, Bannon had largely avoided becoming publicly ensnared in the Russia investigation. But behind the scenes, Bannon sought to play a role in Team Trump’s handling of the issue. He privately advised the president in October to get more aggressive in fighting back against Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, and urged Trump to hire new lawyers.

That fall-out was due in part to the Russia probe; it came after Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury quoted Bannon as saying that the infamous Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner with Kremlin-linked Russian operatives was “treasonous.” (Bannon later claimed that the criticism was meant only for Manafort, a seasoned campaign operative who should have known better.)

That was all months before Trump and his former chief strategist had a public falling out last week that resulted in Bannon losing his job at the pro-Trump Breitbart News.

So House investigators will have scores of questions for the ousted White House official-turned-ousted Breitbart chairman––at the exact moment when his allies have abandoned him.

Trump hates Sessions so much :laff:

This groveling little troll has no dignity at all :scustonsteroids::mjlol:

For months, Sessions has asked senior White House aides to make sure the president knows what he is doing at the Justice Department, two White House advisers said, and has told allies he hopes policy decisions that garner news coverage will please Trump. Sessions’s team at Justice has crafted a public campaign to highlight the work it is doing to advance the president’s agenda. The department has also begun looking into matters that Trump has publicly complained are not being pursued. Top Trump advisers, including White House counsel Donald McGahn and counselor Kellyanne Conway and former chief of staff Reince Priebus and former strategist Stephen K. Bannon, have at times joined the effort and pressed Trump to give his attorney general a second chance. They note his department has helped reduce illegal border crossings and carried out a number of the president’s initiatives, such as cracking down on leaks and targeting the MS-13 street gang. But Sessions, who was one of Trump’s earliest backers and gave up a safe Senate seat to join the administration, has, by all accounts, been unable to repair his relationship with the president. Trump has dismissed praise of Sessions, according to four White House officials and advisers, as he continues to rage about the Russia investigation and Sessions’s decision to recuse himself from the probe into Moscow’s meddling in the 2016 election and whether there was any coordination with the Trump’s campaign.

Trump has, at times, shaken his head or groused when he sees Sessions on TV, advisers said, and has directed some of his frustration over the loss of Sessions’s Alabama Senate seat toward the attorney general.

Trump is even turned off by the portrayal of Sessions on “Saturday Night Live” by Kate McKinnon, advisers said. A senior White House official said that Trump’s frustrations were not a reflection of Sessions but that he found the portrayal “insulting.”

speaking of that, is there any good podcast out there covering this Trump / general political fukery?
Honestly...they're all overlapping these days.

The real stand outs are experts in foreign policy like...FOREIGN POLICY or DEEP STATE RADIO or national security ones like LAWFARE or ...Attorneys like Preet Bharara

Everyone else just gets the same topical shyt and beats it to death. Which is a gift and a curse, with how much fukkery Trump brings to the table.
