I imagine after the Cohen seizures they decided in August they would start really going. That gave them the confidence to prepare the timeline.

Cohen pleading guilty with no deal may be Lanny Davis' plan to counter the "they flipped for a deal" narrative the republicans ran against gates. He just ate it in the hopes he would get considerations, because the SC probably told him thats the only way his testimony had any value to them.
