im surprised there is even a market for 150 dollar polo shirts. how much better can they be than the 20 dollar brooks brothers polos at the outlet store?

A couple of reasons:

-Outlet stores don't typically carry new merchandise, they sit on old inventory for years. In a department store like Nordstrom, GMB would get a quicker turn on their merchandise so they're getting newer & fresher goods

-In theory a $150 polo shirt should be made with better quality materials

But if you don't care about fashion and just wear what you like then nothing I said will matter to you
