Did a run in the snow last week. Loved it man. I joke and tell people these runs in the cold are how you know you are alive. I kind of mean it though. I work an office job, I need to get outdoors and experience the elements.

cold weather running separates the boys from the men and you can actually fukking breathe in the cold, which is a challenge with the summer humidity.

less people to deal with outside when it’s cold and it takes a while to build up that warmth rather than immediately being hot from the sun. Cold weather runs are more efficient: get outside, run and go back home. No fukkery because no one is just chilling in the cold (while sweaty) after a run

I'm the opposite. I can run in that 95 degree, hot hazy humid weather. When the gyms were closed I'd run nature trails but there was also a track nearby. Did the Mamba Challenge on the Nike app with that shyt.

Running in the cold inside nature trails is tough because depending on where you go, one slip and you're tumbling off a tall ass area into a river. It might not have snowed or rained, but those areas get slick overnight.

I use to think white folks were crazy running sub 40 in shorts but I did it and after 10 minutes you're not even thinking about it.

Thinking back to running in the summer. This is 10 million times easier.

That warm weather running takes ALOT of skill if you want to put up real miles consistently, feel good doing it and not be dazed after you're done.

I put up 7 miles today and it was windy for about half of the run and 27 degrees but felt colder. The wind is the real issue in the winter. Crosswinds and headwinds knocking you all over the place. But, no casuals are gonna be outside in your way, the route you pick is all yours and you don't overheat 5 seconds into your run.

A lot of people just aren't built mentally for the cold weather running but would damn near pass out in the summer heat because they go out at the wrong time when the sun is on top of them and the humidity is insane. I do summer runs at 5am to avoid as much of the sun as possible because unless you are in great shape, that shyt will wreck you along with fukking up your skin. And your pace suffers in the summer if you aren't used to it and running all the time.

Ideal shyt is 45-50 degree weather so you don't have the heavy cold weather gear on or 1 trillion percent humidity.

What’s your pace? Also how is your stride?
I used to be a heel runner, but I switch to landing on the balls of my feet(tip toe).
Also do you breath through the nose only?

I ran this morning it was 27F but my weather app said the real feel was 18f.

I’m forefoot/midfoot. That heel striking shyt will destroy your feet. Right now I’m at 7:45-8:30 pace depending on what I’m doing that day. Not trying to focus that much on speed because there’s no local races to train for.

So it’s about endurance and shaving weight these days. you can try and work on like 5 things but it’s just pointless IMO when trying to just get to a base level of fitness out there. A couple of dudes I know wanna be fast so bad and can’t even run 4 miles consistently. They see what other cats are doing and posting and they wanna be that when they need to work on chopping weight.

I breathe through my nose and mouth; it’s more about how much air you need. After a while you’ll need to breath from your mouth to pull in and push out as much air as possible using your core. Can’t push out that much air (or pull in) with your nose.

My stride isn’t insanely long but not short either. Since I’m not racing I’m not trying to go all out with the strides and I’m running every day so I don’t wanna risk injuries trying to go all out on a workout. Leave the insane strides for the track where it’s safer.

For now, just get those miles in since it’s colder, get some good cold weather gear and a couple of pairs of quality running shoes you can rotate. Right now is a good time to get shoes because there’s so much dope shyt out there and on sale.

Can't speak to running, but for biking, I keep a thin jacket in my backpack in case I don't warm up as much as I expected and throw it on if it gets breezy or starts to rain/snow.

Take care of your feet and legs.

Definitely ice even if you don't feel pain.

Soak your feet in ice water, place ice on knees.

Stretch, foam roll, etc.

Don't run hard, run smooth, you're not competing against anyone, so reduce the impact on your joints.

Swing your arms ffs...I see way too many women and old guys just running like robots.

Breathe, I'm serious, learn to breathe better. I've read plenty of Wim Hoff and not only are many people breathing wrong, but they simply don't understand their bodies.

Walk if you need to, you're not Rocky, take a walking break every mile or two.

Fuel up the night before, carbo loading is no myth. I like bagels, peanut butter and sweet potatos the day before I go out on runs. Also eat some carbs after you're done.

Coffee is your best friend, as well as ginger tea either before, after or both.

Basically, you want tons of glycogen stores before and after you run, helps with recovery and ease of running.
