I decided I wanted to get my jog on and start running nightly I just breezed a half mile pretty quickly and then hit a fukking brick wall:flabbynsick: I got 2 questions for you?

1. I tend to get out to a quick pace should I slow it down a bit? The only problem with that is I feel I waste similar amount of energy no matter what pace I'm going so I feel I'll just burn out in less distance then if I briskly jog.

2. How do you get through that mental wall I can do sprints pretty easily just this summer I was doing continuous for an 1hr I would get exhausted but it's so much easier to keep going when you know the one sprint in front of you is only so far away and then you just keep saying it for the next one but with jogging it's hard to keep going when you know the goal is such a far distance away.

Well, basically, you don't have stamina/endurance. You have to build that up by going longer distances, not doing more sprints.

For flabby and sick people, you set yourself a goal, for example, two miles a day. Then, you jog as far as you can and then walk the remaining distance. Every day or every workout, try to increase the distance that is jogged.

What's your goal? Are you interested in running road races or do you see it as a way to burn fat?

If its the latter then I think you should stick to sprinting/ high intensity. There is a lot of recent research that shows it is much more effective than long distance running at burning calories.

I'm the opposite I can run anywhere from 5-10 miles easily but as soon as I start doing some sprints I feel :shaq2:

Na it's not for weight loss I've already did that with out working out at all. I just want to gain some endurance and just get into shape really. If I get up my stamina good enough I would think about running some races.

Sprints are cool but when I played Lacrosse In high school I had one coach who made us run long distances and another one who made us do a million sprints and I felt my endurance was so much better when I was doing the long runs.

This the training program I used when I ran my first half marathon last year. Follow it and you'll be good. Just go at a slow place to where you can breathe regularly and if someone were next to you you'd be able to carry on a conversation. As the weeks go by you'll be able to finish your miles quicker and quicker at the end of each week.

12-Week Half Marathon Training Schedule for Beginning Runners - HalfMarathons.Net

Edit: When I first started I was at a 10-11 min mile pace, at the last couple of weeks I was down to 7-8 min miles.

You played high school lacrosse? Then, you already know what you need to do. Get up off your lazy buns and run.

:heh: Yeah your right if I had coaches yelling in my face for slacking I'm sure I wouldnt be having that mental block I'm having a hard time fighting through. That was also 10 years ago.

I've been running marathon distance (4 x 6.5 miles) every week since november

It took my body some time to adjust (those first 2 weeks :damn:) but my cardio right now is the best it was since basic training :lolbron:

Does anyone have suggestions on if I should run the streets or a track? I'm leaning towards running the streets.
