Ruben Guerrero: Danny Garcia a Fake Rican, Can't Speak Spanish!
By Ryan Burton
BoxingScene.com recently caught up with Ruben Guerrero, father and trainer of former multi-division champion Robert Guerrero, trainer of featherweight contender Oscar Escandon and many other fighters to get his thoughts on his son's upcoming showdown against undefeated welterweight Danny Garcia. The fight takes place on January 23rd at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles and will be televised by Fox as part of Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series.
Ruben, who is a proud Chicano, has taken exception to Garcia's lack of enthusiasm in regard to the fight being billed as a Mexico versus Puerto Rico fight, which is the biggest rivalry in boxing, similar to the the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry in baseball, Lakers-Celtics in basketball and in Mexico, Chivas-América in soccer.
The elder Guerrero feels that because Garcia doesn't speak very much Spanish, the official language of Puerto Rico, he can't identify with the residents of the island where his parents were born.
"How the hell are theses people going to support this guy? That's embarrassing bro," Ruben said of Garcia's inability to speak Spanish. "I'm a Mexicano man. I talk in Mexicano, Spanish, Chicano. You ask me a question in Spanish and I try (to answer it). I'm not no Mexican from Mexico but I got relatives over there. At least I try (to answer questions in Spanish). I can speak Mexicano (slang) and I can even speak some Puerto Rican (slang). I can show him how to speak some Puerto Rican aye."
The proud father is mystified that Danny's father Angel didn't teach him more Spanish when he was growing up. Angel was born in Puerto Rico and speaks fluent Spanish. Ruben said that Danny shouldn't even call himself Puerto Rican.
"Nah. No way man. I don't know what he is bro but he can't speak that Puerto Rican flow. I don't know what it is but Danny's father should be embarrassed. That is embarrassing for your own self and your son. That is embarrassing that you didn't teach him any Spanish. You should have taught him something. That would be like if I didn't teach my sons any Spanish. They are Mexicans bro. They gotta know (some Spanish words)," fired off Ruben who feels that Danny doesn't even want to represent his heritage.
"He doesn't give a damn about Puerto Ricans. All he cares about is himself and The United States. I know Puerto Ricans and the (ones born here) - they at least try to speak Puerto Rican (slang). At least one word man. Can't he even do that?"
Ruben finished our conversation with a final shot, saying that he believes that the island of Puerto Rico will be going for his son on January 23rd.
"I think they are going for Robert in Puerto Rico because (Garcia) doesn't speak a lick of Spanish and he says he is Puerto Rican but he's not and they know it," Ruben told BoxingScene.com.

I just seen the whole Danny interview from PR his Spanish isn't that bad.
I originally seen an instagram vid that made it a lot worse than it was.
He sounds like the typical 2nd generation Americanized Rican. My lady fam filled with nikkas that speak like this.
It seems that it is the only shyt they can think of to promote this fight..Who cares if either guy can speak proper Spanish. As long as they both come to fight it's irrelevant.
