I always thought Goodfellas and Sopranos did a pretty accurate job of dispelling this idea that the Italians were these highly intelligent men of honor.

Most were bumbling idiots, only a select few at the top were intelligent and most of the intelligent ones had no balls.

There’s also this myth that black people were scared to stand up to them. My grandfather was in the streets around that time and I have enough evidence to believe that the Italians knew who to try and not to try when it came to black people.

One of the incidents that led to his downfall was he had a Jewish guy that he loved, but the mafia would never let his azz join cuz of his background. So this dude kept him around. The guy ended up robbing and killing a Colombian plug and his gf for coke. Turns out the Colombians find out, threaten the Italian crime family. All they asked was the person responsible get offed and that it be in a way where it ends up in the news.

He tried to protect him for some time but Colombians where applying too much pressure. The p*ssy was that paranoid he even killed a poor vacuum cleaning salesman that was parked outside his house, because he probably appeared to be Latino and assumed he must have been with the cartel.

Eventually the cartel threatened to send 50 hit men to New York and start taking out mob members. So they killed that guy in a gruesome way and left him in a place where he would be found.

This is why I respect Frank Mathews. I know, I know, “drug dealers fed poison to the community”. I get it, but Frank Mathews made it a POINT to cut the Italians out of the trade. There was a story about how Frank moved down the street from one of them famous mob bosses and when the mob boss tried to intimidate Frank Mathews in hopes that he would move out the neighborhood, Frank told the mob, “you touch one of my people and me and my crew will drive down to little Italy and kill every Italian we see.” The mob boss then tried to dry snitch and get the police to arrest him.
