To emphasize the point made, when Roseanne says "They're just like us", she's basically saying black and asian people shouldn't have their own shows or have shows catered to them when you can watch white TV characters do the same thing they do...even though black and asian people can't relate or see themselves in these shows or these white characters. That's the belitting part....Why does that response offend y'all?
She saying all family shows are the same and have the same issues.
Whats the big deal with that response?
We've been so used to seeing white as the "default".
Now in the Trump era, white has an identity and is no longer a default. White Americans have embraced their whiteness with Trump. They want non-white people to just get with it, assimilate, lose our identities, worship and submit to whiteness, and never speak or allow ourselves to have any representation or to see ourselves as equals in this society.
Y'all seem to forget that Television shapes realities for some people....and representation in Television matters especially to non-white people who struggle to see representations of themselves in the media at large.
Roseanne basically telling non-white people to fukk off.
