I saw the first part so far. Kunta is pretty angry and they almost completed a successful mutany on the ship. Unlike the original, this so far feels far more contentious. Yes, there is some fear but you can see and feel the hate for whitey in this one. The original didn't make me feel that angry. This was far more, I'm gonna choke somebody out tomorrow with James Evans nostril flare than the original.
It's really not that good, even though this Kunta is better than Levar Burton. This one is more like a series of unfortunate events, with each moment's sole purpose being to make you say "Kill Whitey, more and more. Basically, the story is all over the place. Oh yeah, Belle was a good, strong character as well. Forrest's Fiddler was pretty solid, but mostly due to his acting. The script is trash. No one is watching it and it's on like 5 different channels.

I really like the young dude playing Kunta Kente. My only complaint is in think the story or perhaps the writing is being made to be overly dramatic to the extent that it takes away some of the gravitas of the original.

This one is a product of its time. The slaves are not docile at all in this. I like it so far.
I've watched the first two eps so far, and its ok. I binged the original one about 3 or 4 years ago, and it was the only movie/tv show where I was legitimately angry after watching it. So far, I really have no emotion to this one besides the whipping scene at the end of ep 1.
As far as ratings go, I know the 1st ep did a little over 5 million.

my boy put all 4 parts on plex so I'm watching them commercial free right now binging out. on episode three, but it's REALLY good.
I think it sped through too much. Like it was just intense scene after intense scene, highlight after highlight...with not much substance to it. Young Kunta killed it. I liked Forrest, homegirl that played Belle was good too. But the story was missing a lot.
