It was probably down to the vocoder, but Zapp always sounded like music from the future to me.

That shyt was meant to be played while you were pushing the whip on the skyway

Sly and curtis? :leon:

I think so, bruh
The more I go back and listen to his music, Roger really picked up the baton for Funk in the 80's man
Sly had stopped putting out new music after the early 80's, George had cooled after the early 80 as well and Curtis' 80's work was no where near his 70's input

This made way for Roger and he kept that shyt funky to the utmost.

Prince was keeping it funky too, but while Prince experimented and gave us a variety of sounds, Roger kept that shyt funky 100%.

Roger could write, produce, arrange and all that shyt. He was just as much of a genius as is Sly, Curtis and Prince IMO

Man, if Sly would've linked up with Roger in like 88' for an album, that shyt would been nice

Even tho Sly was sitting on the sidelines for most of the 80's, Sly had embraced the 80's sound. Imagine if Sly would've worked with Roger on an album

That's the thing, and that proves my point.

That's one part of the States, what about from state to state and all over the world.

Look it’s good that it’s your sentiment. But Roger is a known legend. The Curtis etc comparisons are a little off though. He should be compared to George, James etc, that’s the wrong line to be drawing comparisons as far as I’m concerned.

The funk lane he’s straight.

I mean Mark Ronson done paid homage the last few years production wise.

We acting like ‘more bounce’ isn’t a staple?

Nonetheless it’s a good discussion I suppose.
