Multiple-time world BJJ champion, Strikeforce vet, and UFC vet Roger Gracie was on the verge of retirement recently when he received an offer from a yet-to-be-named MMA organization. When speaking with the Brazilian outlet Opovo about his future in fighting, he explained his reasons for leaving the UFC and the qualms he has with the organization.

“I’m with a deal almost closed and in the next few days I’ll announce my return to MMA. I should be back still in this year, we got everything settled and soon everybody will know where I’m going to fight. I was retired from MMA and I wasn’t sure if I was going to do just a few fights in Jiu-Jitsu. But I received this good offer and I reconsidered my retirement.

“I’m older now, I’ve achieved everything that I wanted. Everything else would be a plus. The UFC has monopolized everything but there are other organizations. The problem is that, once the UFC is the biggest organization, they control how much the fighters earn and they don’t pay that good. I have my gym and I don’t need the money from MMA to pay my bills.
“I left the UFC because they didn’t want to sign another contract with me after my deal was over. According to them, I was weak compared with other fighters. They didn’t want to pay me as much as Strikeforce. I wouldn’t accept an offer to earn less money and I didn’t want to fight without expectations. It’s better for me stay in my gym.
“I’ll fight at Light Heavyweight. Fighting as a Middleweight wasn’t right for me, it was a mistake that I made and now I regret. I wasn’t able to have a performance as good as my best would be.”

I agree to a certain extent. However, we must not forget that Roger himself fought so terribly they HAD to cut him. bjj ace and he got handled on the ground. Gassed so quickly and can't even strike. WTF was he doing at 185? smfh dude should've stayed at HW and worked heavily on rounding out his game. He signed with One FC.

He's got a point though. That's what has emboldened Dana to put out shytty cards. The brand is stronger than the fighters.
it's not that their intention is to put out shytty cards, they just run more shows than their roster can handle. I'd say their crime is greed rather than incompetence

i had high hopes for roger, but these bjj guys want to standup with standup guys so they dont work their bjj between fights as much as they should. their gameplan always contains details about what to do in the standup and working with legends and takedown experts but when they discuss taking it to the ground its "if it goes to the ground just do what u do best". they dont discuss ways to take em down and get submissions. they just take their ground skills for granted and assume they gonna get a sub anyway.

I say just let them fight one 30 minute round and see who wins at the end.
I say they (bjj guys) need to realize...

stkring , kicking and elbowing nikkas.............. HAVE GOOD ground games now too...... and that stand up and lead to a nikka surprising the fukk out of a BJJ guy on the ground.

Its whatever to me friend. We have Jacare. The greatest grappler in the UFC with a nice strike game. Since the UFC is going to stand you up because the fans dont like ground work, theres really no option but to ground and pound and get a quick sub while the opponent is weak.

lol, I have a friend, friend...
in RL

who seems to think his BJJ is growing in skill.... and he seems to think just because he's in that gym all the time that his fighting skills are increasing.

I think that sometimes bjj guys think that's all they need to know... but we live in modern times.... I hope I do not have to prove this to my friend, friend.

(there is a slight chance he'd fukk me up.. but i doubt it.doe)
