Spotify sleeping on this
I couldn't do it breh. If I'm gonna pay $100 for a record, I'm never gonna open that much less play it and I'm not that kinda record collector.
Spotify sleeping on this
Damn... are we amid a mini, “real” rap renaissance ?... the past coupe months have had extra solid releases .
Has definitely been a while ... just gotta enjoy it. Might go back to trash real soon.Forreal forreal been swimming in ill material for a good two months now.
Honestly haven't had so much dope NEW shyt to rotate since maybe 2001...
Some nice, different production (CVS especially) and some interesting loops. But like RR1 I can't help but feel upset about the sound quality. The mixing isn't outright terrible/nigh unlistenable like RR1, but it's very uneven here. Whereas vocals are low on RR1, they're high here, including adlibs. Some tracks have this weird thing where the vocals or vocal sample are just too high and it's like wtf. I can't listen to this on dope headphones. Perfect example: The Sauce.
It's a good song but yo, what's up with the mixing. I'm not an audiophile but jesus...dude out here bragging about art and selling shyt for $30-100 but won't pay for a decent mix.
I just listened to that Crimeapple album and it sounds GOOD. No issues with mixing. I'm listening to the new Black Milk...great mix. Listen to a bit of the Black Panther soundtrack still...great mix.
Don't get me wrong this is a solid album and I love multiple tracks tho.
This whole layer of hip-hop has poor mixing, though. I figured it's just part of the aesthetic.
I'm listening on youtube instead of spotify. now he gets now n' later moneyRoc Marciano's Anti-Streaming Release Strategy Is Paying Off
“Don’t get it twisted: I want people to have the art. But if you’re not supporting me, then I can’t give you the art.”

But the mixing on his first two records is fine, and other artists in that lo-fi minimalist loop rap movement tend to have good mixing. Thinking about like Alchemist's shyt for instance, it always sounds cripsy and great. Or Earl Sweatshirt's last album, or any of Ka's projects. IMO there is no excuse for how Roc's shyt sounds. At least I can listen to this album, whereas I threw RR1 out after a few weeks.
I don't want to hear someone brag about their art while not taking care of this. I "know" the engineer/mixer who Roc lowballed for RR1; he passed on the project because Roc wouldn't pay his rate. Dunno who mixed this one. It reminds me of a little over 10 years ago Blu was doing this type of stuff, releasing un-mixed shyt and calling it lo-fi. Nope.
