That was what was envisioned. A future where robots do most of the work and humans work less hours and have more time for leisure.

They didn't count on good old human selfishness though. Hours have gone up for those lucky enough to find jobs and profits continue to go to the very wealthy ownership class.

you sound like an idiot

I bet if you were around in the 1900 you'd be against electricity cause you like candles. Progress doesn't wait for no man and technology has been without a doubt the greatest force for good in mankinds history. If it wasn't for technology we would be toiling away in caves and trees, fearing the night because we had no lights.

The problem people see with the rise of the machines is because we are deluded into thinking that having a job is somehow a good. I personally rejoice whenever I hear machines have taken over activities that humans once HAD to do. No one is stopping you from doing WHAT YOU WANT. Technology simply frees us from the chains of capitalism. :blessed:

If our species is to make a smooth transition through this period of rapid technological change, it will require that we give up our moronic notion that a man has to do a job he doesn't want to live a comfortable life. We are more productive as a species than we have ever been in history. There is no reason that the government can't spread that wealth so that all people in this country can benefit rather than the few capitalists on top.

Capitalism will die one way or another. Its just a question of whether we will give it up kicking and screaming or peacefully.

I sound like an idiot?:what:
How the hell people gonna buy shyt when robots do jobs? Where people gonna get money? And in what world do you see the people at the top spreading the wealth? As soon as they get to working efficiently enough these robots will take minimum wage jobs and jobs that are easy, and those people will be out on their ass. Think about the auto industry they can fire half their lines cause a machine does their job. That's exactly what this world needs tho right more machines taking jobs so people can have leisure time :stopitslime: let me know when food, water, rent, clothing, and utilities have leisure time also. Yet I'm an idiot.

robots should replace menial tasks. Why should humans even do that stuff anymore?

If we didn't subsidize the lower classes, then we wouldn't have an overabundance of people who can't even perform a first order differentiation on simple binomial. now we have to dind jobs for them. who's fault is that? Not mine

Call me paranoid but nothing good will come from this.

your not only a paranoid but also an idiot

life is 100x better today than it was just a century ago......our poor today have cell phones, flat screen TVs, and cars......the richest people just 100 years ago didn't have that shyt

people really need to appreciate all the good technology has done for the human race......without technology we would be no different than the Chimpanzees......and just as technology helped us this past century it will do so as well this upcoming century

you need to just open your eyes.....read a book......and gain some knowledge on how bad the past was and how much better we have it now

and whats wrong with that?

with the increase in wealth and productivity, the world will be richer than its ever been, robots will be doing the work that man once had to do

why should the capitalists be the only ones to benefit?

If we are smart, we'll welcome this because it'll free us from having to work to earn a living. Instead we can spend our time doing what we want to do rather than what we have to do.

so you mean a full scale shift to communism?

:manny: I kind of like robots playing a more prominent role. The main concern is an over dependence that leads to us forgetting how to do certain things without tech. As long as there is a balance between robots and people. Like the checkout lanes.

How did you get that from the video? :wtf:

This has nothing at all to do with there not being enough workers.

I guess my sarcasm was weak. sry about that. I'm just saying over 8% jobless rate, rural poverty, over a billion people, effed up nation; yet TOP economy probably will top the US in a few years and they want to give jobs to robots? Seems off to me.

It's like that sometimes. :manny:

I can understand the rationale, to be honest. You don't have to pay robots, don't have to give them benefits, they don't need days off, don't need breaks, can't complain about working conditions, will do whatever you program them to do, etc.

From a pure business perspective, it makes perfect sense to use robots as much as possible. I doubt most employers give a fukk about unemployment or the poverty rate, if robots are cheaper than hiring people then I'd expect them to get more common. It sucks, but I'm not sure what you can really do.
