Alright, lets name his best live action flicks. Off the top my head, I got the three back to the future movies, who framed roger rabbit since it's still part live action, romancing the stone, Cast Away and I guess I have to include Gump, my feelings of the movie aside.

I can't tell if this is pro or anti Zemeckis. I liked Flight too.

I was just championing the theatrical experience

I'm in the middle on him. I thought Flight was cool but not great. I'm just very middle of the road with his flicks. I think his best work is years ago but he can still do his thing every now and then. hopefully this one is an every now and then

Pretty much, except I thought Flight wasn't even 'cool' like that to be frank.

Movie was :shaq2: with a side of :russell:. The women in the audience seemed more impressed with it, and one dude actually tried to get a fukking applause going like that shyt was gonna fly, so I guess some people liked it. 'Some people' also being a description of how many people were in the theater, because shyt was maybe a quarter full at best, and this was a 9:30pm showing on Friday. I guess nobody is really fukking with it.

Anyway, the biggest problem is that there's no character arc and what little "conflict" Zemeckis tries to add to the story is non-existent. shyt just happens. Dude meets like five people in a row who all join him after having a single 30 second conversation with them. Meanwhile the dialogs keeps awkwardly skipping between French and English as they keep explaining over and over it's because he's in France but is practicing his English because he wants to go to New York and it just feels so unnecessary. But not even as unnecessary as the awkward voice-over which does nothing for the movie except add an intolerable sense of self-indulgence to the whole affair. Meanwhile Zemeckis keeps mistaking style for substance so by the fiftieth time he found a unique way to have a shot of JGL drawing an imaginary/if not actual wire between two objects you're wondering why the fukk you're still watching.

I guess for the 'incredible must-see-in-3D experience' of him walking the wire, except that experience is pretty much void of any suspense and left me wondering if @FlyRy has really become that bad at recognizing the blaring mediocrity of a movie through its average-ass unimpressive trailers? That answer is 'Yes' apparently.
