Silly take by Jason here and I tend to agree with him on many things.

"Tangibles" is being talked about a lot and paying the debts of these black students is definitely tangible.

"Making connections" is not something tangible for a young black male.
Right. I’m in the media field and have seen many folks make connections there that didn’t lead to shyt. There’s more to it than that. It dies by matter if Robert Smith did this for one class or 10 classes... he fukkin did something! Man one of those kids he helped could be the next Robert Smith

Nah I don't agree that the billionaire is doing what he should.

This is actual philantrophy:
Bill Gates: I’ve paid $10 billion in taxes. I should have paid more.

What the billionaire here did is the same as going down 1 block of skid row and passing out sandwiches for the gram. Its a nice gesture, the people who received it will be grateful but it does nothing to fix the causes of these problems or the system that needs these problems to exist to enrich those at the top. If people actually cared about the problems then there would be none. But it pays well for these types of problems to exist...
That ain't a good comparison at all.

Giving out sandwiches feeds some people for a few hrs

Eliminating debt puts you far ahead in a country where everybody is in debt and don't have money saved.

A better comparison would be taking people off skid row, giving them jobs and an apt that's rent free for say 1 year

It's breathing room in a country where most are suffocating

Y'all saying the man didn't do enough (which is ridiculous) not realizing that groups don't rely on one billionaire to come up, it's an aggregation of efforts from the COLLECTIVE

It can't just be the billionaires

Yep, most adults are up to their eyeballs in debt, even folks in their 50s and above. Shoot, having a net worth that's not negative puts you way ahead of the pack. These students can start building actual wealth right out of the gate instead of having to worry about a mountain of debt to pay off. This is the biggest head start you can get outside of wealth being passed to you generationally :wow:

Idk who this Robert Smith or Jason Black guy is but he's right that this billionaire paying off this debt is meaningless. There's still going to be $34million to pay for the next class and all the ones after that until we fix this dumb ass system. No where else in the world do you have to get into 5 and 6 figures worth of debt for a fukking diploma.

Unless this billionaire is going to setup a recurring 34m check every year I'm not sure what he's changed or done other than shut nikkas up for a while.
This site is becoming ridiculous. How is this low quality posting. Its low quality discussion when you are censoring dissenting opinions.

He is right about putting these black graduates into the right circles to thrive. Jason is just trash at communication. He made a good point but it got drowned out by calling the $34 mil meaningless. Being debt free out of college is great and I know those kids and parents appreciate it, but Robert Smith connecting these people with the right circles might have been cheaper and more impactful for the graduates in the long run.
