Good point I just dont see why such a action packed film doesn't get at lest a select screening.
At times, the studio doesn't want it too.
Lionsgate is an Independent company.
Usually what happens with Independent films is they're made with a small budget, and then they are entered in film festivals in hope they find financiers from motion picture studios who then would spend millions in marketing and promotion. The other scenario is, and Lionsgate is known for this, is since the film won't obviously do big numbers if it does go to the theaters, there's no point in partnering with major studios because then the profits and split and eventually the Independent company would take a loss. If it goes straight to DVD, the costs are less and they get all the profits.
The Hunger Games was actually a Lionsgate production too. But, then they had to partner with a studio to release and make the film.
I'm not sure what their intentions with 50 is, whether they want to keep making straight to DVD movies, or eventually look to make something big. It must be doing well if they gave him another 10 picture deal on top of his current one despite only 1/2 releases from the initial deal.
