I never said anything about commercial hit. People seem to forget RDJ didn't "fall off", he was a drug addict mess prior to around '03. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was the first movie he was the "star" after his last successful stint in rehab. Prior to that he was either in jail, rehab, or fired from movies/TV shows.

I thought this was common knowledge, film critics talk about it when they review the movie:

Everyone who saw this flick on its initial release rediscovered Robert Downey Jr. He is Iron Man because of this film. End of story.
