As a kid growing up in the late 70's and 80's, before shyt like Hard Knocks and ESPN was still 2 or 3 n1ggas in a studio. This was how a young man got his peek into the NFL, and he did such a good job of it. He helped breathe excitement into the most mundane of details and he loved the game as much you guys did. This man was a big reason why I pursued a career in media and film and why I went into TV production. Dude was just having fun out there and we were too. I had the pleasure of meeting him one time when he was covering a Giants game, dude was in his 50's at the time and he was just all over the place, like an intern, great stuff. May he rest in peace and condolences to his family and friends.

NFL films was as important as anything in my childhood with regards to teaching me the history and intricacies of the sport. I remember they used to have the Super Bowl highlight marathon the night before that year's Super Bowl. Me and my best friend made it a point to watch all the 30 minute Super Bowl highlight reels. I have I-XXX on DVD, might fire a few up tonight.

RIP Steve -- dude was such an innovator. A genius that somehow knew that putting these old clips in slow mo together with some big ass Conan the Barbarian warrior music would work. I know there are few things I've enjoyed watching more in my life than old school football the way Steve Sabol did it.

RIP to the great.

I have no idea how/why he isnt in the HOF. Im still stunned his dad got in only in 2011.

For most of us, he was how we watched football. He and his pop changed sports television.

There is not one piece of visual media that adequately represented everything the NFL was and is the way NFL films did. And there probably will never be any NFL based film that reaches that holy grail of cinematography.

Looking at the highlights every Sunday morning before the days of cable and satellite is what gave me the interest i have in he game now. Sabol and family made it an event with their highlights and are great contributors to the game. RIP to Steve Sabol.
