MEXICO CITY (AP) — An autopsy has found that "lucha libre" wrestler Pedro Aguayo died almost immediately of injuries suffered in the ring over the weekend, Mexican authorities said Wednesday.
Aguayo, the 35-year-old son of retired wrestling legend Pedro "Perro" Aguayo, had three fractured vertebrae and was dead by the time he reached a hospital, said Gilberto Cota Alanis, deputy prosecutor for Baja California state.
Medical staff there tried for 90 minutes to revive Aguayo, Cota Alanis said.
Aguayo was injured during a match in Tijuana, apparently after being launched out of the ring and then, soon after, receiving a flying kick to the shoulder and neck from fellow wrestler Oscar Gutierrez, better known as Rey Mysterio Jr.
Video footage showed Aguayo hanging motionless from the ropes unattended as the bout continued for about two more minutes before other wrestlers and the referee realized he was seriously injured.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Saturday.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation, and Cota Alanis said the four other wrestlers involved in the match would be questioned about the incident as well as Wrestling and Boxing Commission officials who handled Aguayo's body and the medical workers who attended to him.
Aguayo's funeral was Sunday.
Why does the story keep changing*Update*
Terrible tragedy but from what I can tell it definitely isn't on Rey. Some sort of freak accident. Interested in hearing what the autopsy says. When he gets kicked out the ring, he gets up QUICK, but once in there he looks lethargic as fukk...weird. And it's made all the more strange by the fact that we can't really tell when he is just selling moves, and when he is legit hurt.
And while I've nothing against them continuing the match in theory, in practice, that looks in *really* poor taste. Made all the worst by the fact that they are doing things like right beside his body, still doing moves over the ropes, etc. If he had gotten hurt outside the ring it wouldn't look as bad, but Rey misses a 619 right over his head while dude is hanging there.... And when they are trying to move him, his head is hitting all up on the mat and shyt. It just all looks so horrible. Still..to be fair, most wrestlers would likely say "the show must go on, wrestle over my cold dead corpse I don't give a fukk" because those dudes are nuts so....
Speaking of the 619, I don't want to come off as though I'm making light of the situation, but how ironic is it that, after years and years of people shytting on the 619 because the set-up was so damn arbitrary and corny, that a guy may have actually legitimately felt hurt into that actual position between the ring ropes? How fukking insane is that?
Anyways, is he survived by a wife/any children?
I'm with you breh. But if you watch that up close video, he gets his neck jacked four times in that last sequence.MAN you aint lying, I was the biggest hater of that move because of that very reason, That's why its so hard for me to understand what happened, cause I refuse to believe any part of that setup was the cause of his death. Its to the point where I want to believe he must have had a pre-exsisting head injury probably un diagnosed, like he was one move away, or he probably would not have been cleared if he was examined prior to the match..
does that make sense or am I the biggest hater of the 619 ever?
