All their salaries are publicly available too. When I worked at one of my prev jobs, the sheriffs would make 150k+ and all they did was basically be the guards at the hospital in case some junkie caused a problem with the staff

Maybe where you from. Being a cop is one of the highest paying jobs you can have without any education beyond highscool. They make $55k while in the academy here and $75k if you pass. You’d be hard pressed to find a career that starts off at $75k plus those benefits with no education or cert requirements.
