I was just thinking about her because the new Star Trek series used archive audio of her in an episode.
She was still living at the time of the episode's production, but she was in no condition to reprise her role.

Woman blazed a trail and made TV history. And she was a stunna.
She wanted to back out of Star Trek and Dr. King made her stay in the show. He told her that was the only show he and Coretta let the kids stay up to watch and it had an impact on them.
Every black person to appear on Trek or even watch any of the series owes her a debt of gratitude.
A lot of folk might not watch Trek or be into sci-fi but you’re getting a look at a future where 90% of the bullshyt we’ve dealt with or deal with now doesn’t exist. Nichelle held it down by herself back then and became part of one of TV’s most iconic casts.
