On her way in to rehearsals for "Saturday Night Live," Rihanna was surprised with an elaborate gift from an awaiting fan.
The "Diamonds" singer wore a red, fuzzy-lined coat, dark blue jeans, and Timberlands as she accepted a framed display of her records from her male fan. Afterwards, she gave her loyal supporter a warm hug and posed for photographs with him.

The thing with new artist is they include a lot of single certs with the "Total sold". Back in the day with physical singles, an Artist Single Sales weren't that huge. Now with Downloads artist be going 3 or 4x Plat off a single. Riri has only sold about 20-25 Million worldwide. She only has 1 multi-plat album but every LP went Plat. Most of her sales are with digital downloads in which she has sold over 65-70 Million Downloads. This is why she got the 100 Million Plaque. But she hasn't sold 100 Million albums, that total is with her single sales.
It a shame when they put her in the "100 Million" category with artist that actually sold 100 Albums not singles. Big Difference. She's sold albums but to me she's a singles artist. Her LP never did large units. Matter of fact none of her LP's debut at #1 on the charts. Rhianna is a singles machine. She drops albums every year so she's never out of the spotlight and her LP is good for 2-3 hits every time. Her single sales are crazy. She's already had 11 #1 songs. But to me she's oversaturaed the market, she needs to take 2 or 3 years off but the "Def Jam" machine won't let her. Her new album is about to drop, this is the 4th album in a row going back to 2009. This is the biggest problem with music today. Artist dropping every year, you need to take time on your art. Rhianna is dropping nothing but fast food RnB right now.

Even if it was a fan plaque. That's not the point. Rihanna is listed as one of the highest selling artist of all time. With 85 Million Sold. To me that's wrong cause she hasn't sold 85. She sold 25 Million albums and a ton of downloads. I know you have to adjust how you give certifications in the new era but to me it's kinda cheating when artist have sold full body of work and now you up there with the Janet's, Whitney and Mariah's cause you sold a bunch of downloads when they sold albums.

whether people bought a physical cd or a download, they still BOUGHT the song. they aren't going around giving album plaques for single sales, never have so why would they start now?
dude saying singles sell more these days? there were plenty of people doing multi plat single numbers back in the day, in fact there are shytloads of times where a single will be multi plat & the album might only be platinum or even gold
