I bet

Kenpo is traditional karate/self defense karate.
Kyokushin, is not. We are a combat/fighting style of karate. I don’t know any joint locks and wrist locks or fancy hip toss throws(except for one), or any of those other self defense tactics etc.
So my point is, it wouldn’t be fair to pit a Kyokushin fighter against a traditional karate style such as kenpo. We regularly bang with(and win against) Muay Thai fighters and kickboxers, because those are our only equivalents in the martial arts world.
Take the first :60 seconds of comments from the commentators in this Kyokushin vs Kickboxing clip, it sums up Kyokushin Karate pretty accurately.
You would never see a kenpo guy banging with Thai fighters, because it’s just not what that style is cut out for. It’s not what they do. With all due respect, it would be a massacre.
We, however, have a long, long history of banging with(and winning against) Thai fighters. From the 60’s to the 80’s(the clip below) and yes even present day.
Present day success of Kyokushin fighters against Muay Thai is shown here by a young man who I’ve been training Kyokushin alongside with for many years, who entered and WON the US East Coast Muay Thai tournament. I posted about it here(link in last sentence of post):
I’ve trained along side this young man since 2013. We are Kyokushin fighters. That is all we train. He went to the US East Coast Muay Thai tournament and won, under Muay Thai rules, using only Kyokushin, considering that is all we know.
Yes, he is a Kyokushin fighter who went to a Muay Thai championship and took the title, with Kyokushin.

In conclusion, a kenpo practitioner would not ever, and could not ever, enter a Muay Thai tournament and win. I say all these things to say, it’s just not fair to pit a kenpo guy against a Kyokushin fighter, because of the two drastically different styles of karate they are. And with all due respect, if
he has truly been training for 15 years or 20 years (kinda suspect that he doesn’t know how long he’s been training but I digress), he will acknowledge this as the truth as well.
Osu!
