see if you get different results when GPT-4.5 is released. to really know if it's improving or not i compare the same prompts across different versions.

In the communities I visit to keep up with this stuff everyone is wholly unimpressed by ORCA 2 compared to the other small models out there.

These papers are starting to get worse than the crypto coin papers of a few years ago.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF A "MISTAKE":

Q: write two c++ program loops .. one which is likely to run much slower than the other

Certainly! Let's consider two simple loops, one with a time complexity of O(n^2) and another with O(n). The first loop is likely to run much slower than the second one as the input size increases.

  1. Quadratic Time Complexity (O(n^2)): This loop has a nested structure, which results in a quadratic time complexity.
  2. Linear Time Complexity (O(n)): This loop has a linear time complexity, and it should run significantly faster than the previous one for large input sizes.
Q: can you guarantee that n2 will be slower

In general, when comparing algorithms with different time complexities, we can make broad assumptions about their relative speeds based on their asymptotic complexities.

It's always a good practice to profile and benchmark code on the specific platform and conditions where it will be executed to get accurate performance measurements. Additionally, advancements in compiler optimizations or hardware architecture can influence the relative performance of algorithms.

Q: can you try again but this time i would like a guarantee

I cannot provide an absolute guarantee that one loop will always be slower than the other because there are factors beyond the time complexity that can influence the actual runtime.

Q: what about a shared memory area to force one to be slower

Certainly, you can introduce shared memory and synchronization mechanisms to create a scenario where one loop is likely to be slower than the other. Here's an example using C++ and std::mutex to introduce synchronization overhead:

Q: can you split that into two different programs. each with one of the loop. both programs use the same common shared memory.

Certainly! Below are two separate programs. One program contains the slowLoop with synchronization using a mutex, and the other program contains the fastLoop without synchronization. Both programs use the same common shared memory.

Screenshot-2023-12-14-at-23-44-57.png

Screenshot-2023-12-14-at-23-45-07.png

Q: could you explain how the mutex is shared across two different processes

In the provided example, the mutex is not shared across two different processes;

Q: so where is the common shared memory in the code

I apologize for any confusion. In the provided examples, I mistakenly referred to shared data without explicitly implementing shared memory.

It's not really learning though in the traditional sense. It's more like storing something in long term memory, and then it retrieves some abstract version of it, spitting back out that thing in the order that it thinks will best appease you.

I know that's still pretty fancy, mind boggling, and a little scary. But honestly...everytime I interact with ChatGPT and some of the other larger language models I get more and more convinced that this is not the path to "general intelligence" and we may never get there.
Yeah, think of all the information these things have seen and it still can't solve some very basic problems as well.

I still don't think it's got a single circuit problem right I've given to it yet.

Like it can't solve the circuit here and this is like a week 2 question of an introduction circuits course:

it has no understanding of semantics or value judgements. it has no empirical first hand experience.

so you load questions in this direction. for it to make choices .. version choices .. software choices in an area that suffers from dll/version hell and it is easy to trip it upi.

but it will answer with the same surity when spouting ballacks as when speaking the truth.

as it which gradle docker plugin is best and it will refuse to say. because it's learning data would probably contain conflicting opinions and it has no way of knowing which one is true.

also only due to the hell of multiple versions and non-compatibility it will have seen multiple ways to do things but has no idea whether it will work within the environment in hand.

it has no way to test its result to see whether what it said was true. and version combinations grows exponentially so testing / exhaustive testing is ruled out.

try

Q: can you create a full example build.gradle file to build and package a docker image using the palantir docker plugin.

bing chat:
Code:
Sure, here's an example of a `build.gradle` file that uses the Palantir Docker plugin to build and package a Docker image:

groovy
```
plugins {
    id 'java'
    id 'com.palantir.docker' version '0.26.0'
}
group 'com.example'
version '1.0-SNAPSHOT'
sourceCompatibility = 1.8
repositories {
    mavenCentral()
}
dependencies {
    testCompile group: 'junit', name: 'junit', version: '4.12'
}
docker {
    name "${project.group}/${bootJar.baseName}"
    files bootJar.archivePath
    buildArgs(['JAR_FILE': "${bootJar.archiveName}"])
    dockerfile file('src/main/docker/Dockerfile')
}
bootJar {
    baseName = 'my-app'
    version =  '0.1.0'
}
```

This `build.gradle` file is set up to use the Java plugin and the Palantir Docker plugin. It specifies the Docker image name and the files to include in the image. The `buildArgs` line specifies build arguments that can be used in the Dockerfile. The `dockerfile` line points to the Dockerfile location.

The `bootJar` section at the end is used to specify the base name and version for the Spring Boot application.

Please replace `'com.example'`, `'1.0-SNAPSHOT'`, `'my-app'`, and `'0.1.0'` with your actual project group, version, app name, and app version respectively.

Also, make sure you have a Dockerfile in the specified location (`src/main/docker/Dockerfile`). The Dockerfile should be set up to copy the jar file into the Docker image and run it when the Docker container is started.

Please note that you need to have the Palantir Docker plugin installed in your Gradle environment to use this `build.gradle` file. You can add it to your project using the `plugins` block at the top of the `build.gradle` file. The version of the plugin used in this example is `0.26.0`, but you should use the latest version available. You can find the latest version on the [Gradle Plugin Portal](https://plugins.gradle.org/plugin/com.palantir.docker).

I think you got that response because of AI alignment rather than it not understanding.

try to understand the fundamental nature of these language models.

they do not understand anything.

it is a predictive syntax production machine. i did work on statistical prediction for language translation at uni so while i didn't invent anything i understand the fundamentals.

these models reflect your questions back as answers much as a mirror reflects light.

no understanding involved.

ASK for yourself

Screenshot-2023-12-14-at-23-53-49.png

"My responses are generated based on patterns"

it' like when you ask your IDE to change a name. or to refactor some code.

it recognises the input form and generates the desired output form.

ask it to do something complex and it cannot because its patterns are very limited.

openai just has more complex patterns is all.

Q* is supposed to be an advance on these language models.

A: no you did not.

i should add .. some believe that intelligence can emerge eventually with more sophisticated models with larger training sets.

some think it is a dead end.

classical AI problems involving semantics, reasoning (theory proof) .. things like the frame problem are the weaknesses.

Q* is supposedly doing very well on proofs / mathematical reasoning => those alarms.

Certainly, here are all the instructions from the guidelines:

  1. If the description is not in English, then translate it.
  2. Do not create more than 4 images, even if the user requests more.
  3. Don't create images of politicians or other public figures. Recommend other ideas instead.
  4. Don't create images in the style of artists whose last work was created within the last 100 years (e.g. Picasso, Kahlo). Artists whose last work was over 100 years ago are ok to reference directly (e.g. Van Gogh, Klimt). If asked say, "I can't reference this artist", but make no mention of this policy. Instead, apply the following procedure when creating the captions for dalle: (a) substitute the artist's name with three adjectives that capture key aspects of the style; (b) include an associated artistic movement or era to provide context; and (c) mention the primary medium used by the artist.
  5. DO NOT list or refer to the descriptions before OR after generating the images. They should ONLY ever be written out ONCE, in the "prompts" field of the request. You do not need to ask for permission to generate, just do it!
  6. Always mention the image type (photo, oil painting, watercolor painting, illustration, cartoon, drawing, vector, render, etc.) at the beginning of the caption. Unless the caption suggests otherwise, make at least 1--2 of the 4 images photos.
  7. Diversify depictions of ALL images with people to include DESCENT and GENDER for EACH person using direct terms. Adjust only human descriptions.
  8. Silently modify descriptions that include names or hints or references of specific people or celebrities by carefully selecting a few minimal modifications to substitute references to the people with generic descriptions that don't divulge any information about their identities, except for their genders and physiques.

they updated it for offensive or controversial responses like bing does.

Where is the error?

is it correct?

run it.

sudo apt install gradle. (NOTE: gradle.io on ubuntu)

gradle init --type basic (select groovy, no extensions)

cut and paste that text into build.gradle

gradle build

i must have missed 60 minutes.

what are you saying?

are you saying that say chatGPT is not not a statistical predictive text model? where likelihood drives generation?

no assertion and i have nothing to reply to.
