What I mean was Bbd had already had their run in 90. Mike was the biggest star in the world. By the time he adopted the sound he it took to the moon & back with Teddy in tow. By the time Mike was done promoting singles the sound seemed somewhat exhausted. It’s not a coincidence that there wasn’t many NJS releases of note post Dangerous. For a couple of years the sound was hip & fresh with new faces rising to prominence off of it. Once a global name like Mike got on it it was almost like it was “the standard sound”

It’s almost like how people knew grunge was dead when they started seeing “the look” on runways

mike's chit wasnt impactful like that bro.
his chit was pop, and he was approaching his last legs.

the rise of hip-hop soul is what caused new jack swing to dwindle.

By the time Jodeci, Mary & Kels got rolling NJS had nothing left to give. I’m basically agreeing with you and you don’t realize it. By the time Michael found his way to it it was overexposed & stale

mary & kels blew up doing new jack swing. mary had arguably the greatest new jack track of them all.
they shifted the pendulum towards hip-hop soul at the same time tho, along with jodeci.

mike just wasnt a factor, really.
maybe we do agree, but i just dont see why mike is being brought up.
great discussion either way tho.

Had nothing to do with waning sound or people doing NJS better. That sophomore album just wasn’t good. Biggest drop off between albums ever

it was the 3rd album.

and theres been way bigger dropoffs.

album was hot and he still had a big run off the jawn. it just gets dwarfed historically by DBC.

No one counts that 86 joint same way with Janet, Ludacris, jeezy, etc. This shyt fizzled after Humpin. That Whitney single :scust:

The songs that performed well would have done better had they had they have been released earlier. No argument that it wasn’t a memorable album overall

Songs were no different than Michael, Aaron Hall, TLC, Teddy, R.Kelly, etc. New Jack Swing was still active in 1992. shyt just didn’t hit like don’t Be cruel

I mean Dangerous sold like 30.illion and is listed as the highest selling new jack album. Majority of the record was produced by Teddy Riley...of course you have to mention that album when talm bout New Jack Swing.

Besides Michael none of the people had hit the heights Bobby had. TLC & Kels would go on to find their massive success. I said previously Bobby missed his window to where America was infatuated with him and he could have done anything . When he took 4+ years to come back his incredible buzz had went in other directions. On top of that the type of music he made wasn’t as hot as it used to be. Still went double platinum & still had multiple songs in the top 20 but everyone was expecting him to follow up at least 5x platinum :yeshrug:

Breh window and time frame is irrelevant. You mentioned Michael he had a five year gap from bad to dangerous. And Bobby was still active between DBC and Bobby dropping singles and various remix albums. Bobby wasn’t a good album. Period.

There’s a lot I disagree with in the above statement but nobody is going to tell you Bobby was a good album. I’ll leave it at that :russ:
