I was mad excited when I copped this album.

I think I might have even forced myself to like it, but it in reality that shyt was almost wack.

Had some gems on it that saved it from being frisbee material though.

yep.

whatever happened to the song he performed at the VMAs that year?

Guess MCA ain’t think much of it. I would’ve loved to have heard a CDQ version of it. I’ve always seen positive feedback in YouTube comments concerning it.

The nikka waited 4 years and change came back to a different world that he helped jumpstart. Drinking, smoking & being caught up on Whitney’s titty

smh

THIS

bobby should dropped by the top of '92 at the latest. album came a year late. new jack swing was already taking a backseat to hip-hop soul by the time bobby dropped this.
and high-key, his buls BBD had already did most of this stuff better.

i dont want to say he missed his window, because this album was still huge and his run in '93 is underrated. but it couldve been bigger, like you said.

When Bobby was on white publications next to JFK Jr & Tom Cruise along with maintaining his black fanbase he should have cashed in right next to Hammer in 90. He was still reaping the benefits of a summer 88 release! Only a few years later the narrative turned and he became that “troubled nikka bringing down Whitney”

MJ came with Dangerous and basically soaked up whatever future NJS had left

timing is everything in life.

Ppl forget Bobby was that nikka for a minute in the late 80s/early 90s. Dude was a legit star.....Career shoulda been bigger but drugs and his toxic relationship with whitney fukked that up

Shoulda dropped in 90 bc yea by 92 hiphop was top dog once Dre n Snoop dropped

ehh

that michael jackson run was more new jack pop.

BBD had the run that really shut down the early '90s, and thats bobby's crew so its whatever.
then came the mary j/uptown run that was new jack mixed with the change into hip-hop soul.

i think those were more effective than MJ. mike was just mike. and mike was on his last legs anyway.:yeshrug:

What I mean was Bbd had already had their run in 90. Mike was the biggest star in the world. By the time he adopted the sound he it took to the moon & back with Teddy in tow. By the time Mike was done promoting singles the sound seemed somewhat exhausted. It’s not a coincidence that there wasn’t many NJS releases of note post Dangerous. For a couple of years the sound was hip & fresh with new faces rising to prominence off of it. Once a global name like Mike got on it it was almost like it was “the standard sound”

It’s almost like how people knew grunge was dead when they started seeing “the look” on runways
