Islam has been in Africa for over a thousand years. One third of the people brought to America in slavery were Muslim. The remnants of Islam practiced by the ancestors are still present in the USA, but apparently a lot of folks are unaware of it.

Except for the people from Congo and Angola, most Black people in America didn't become Christians until the Great Awakening, specifically the Second one. They were discriminated against even though they were Christians. So whether they are Christians or Muslims Black people will face dicrimination. Fwiw Islam has been practiced in America since the first people were brought here from modern day Senegambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Niger, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Northern Ghana.
