If he left within a day it wouldn't be too hard. I think 48 hrs is the wait time to officially have a missing persons. Wisconsin to Michigan is 400 miles and to Toronto where he likely flew is 4-5 hrs from Detroit. Easily doable in a day.

When I was in the Navy this cac pulled a similar stunt. We was off the cost of Italy and he jumped overboard. Made it look like he slipped and fell off the boat. It was at night and nobody saw him do it and nobody noticed he was missing until muster the next morning. After searching the ship for him somebody checked the cams on the fantail and saw him apparently accidentally fall overboard
Immediately we turn the ship around and spent a good bit of time looking for him. They called in a search team too and divers. Nothing. He had a wife and kids and all
Come to find out his family is from Italy. They disapprove of his wife and told him to just leave her and start new back home in Italy. When he went overboard they had some of his family members in a boat who came and picked him up after our ship steamed away.
He was in Italy with a new fiancé living with his family
His wife was PISSED.
